Exploring the Cultural and Natural Heritage of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand

As part of the Student Mobility Program between the School of Nursing, Walailak University, Thailand, and the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Malaysia, nursing students from IIUM not only participated in a variety of academic and professional learning activities, but also had the opportunity to explore the rich culture, local lifestyle, natural beauty, and cultural heritage of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Kiriwong Village
The students visited Kiriwong Village, a peaceful community surrounded by lush mountains and beautiful natural scenery. The visit allowed them to experience the unique local way of life, enjoy the refreshing natural environment, and discover the charm of one of Nakhon Si Thammarat’s well-known community-based tourism destinations.

Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan
The students also explored Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, one of the most important Buddhist temples and cultural landmarks in southern Thailand. The temple has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, becoming Thailand’s 9th World Heritage Site and the first World Heritage Site in southern Thailand.

Beyond academic learning, these sightseeing and cultural experiences provided IIUM nursing students with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Thai culture, traditions, local communities, and ways of life. The activities also encouraged cross-cultural learning, friendship, and meaningful connections between students from Malaysia and Thailand.

Through the combination of academic learning, professional experiences, cultural exchange, and local exploration, the mobility program created memorable experiences and strengthened the partnership between Walailak University and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
