As part of The 4th Global Multiprofessional and Cultural Camp 2026 with SHOWA Medical University, Japan, students from Walailak University and SHOWA Medical University participated in a community-based learning experience at Ban Sanguan Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, gaining firsthand exposure to Thailand’s primary healthcare system and community nursing practice.

The learning activity was led by Lecturer Supaporn Saiphaen from the Department of Community Health Nursing, School of Nursing, Walailak University, who is responsible for community-based clinical education in the area. She introduced the students to the role of the Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital within Thailand’s primary healthcare system and demonstrated how nursing education is integrated with community health services to provide holistic, people-centered care.

During the visit, the students toured several key service units, including the Wound Care and Injection Room, the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Clinic, and the Antenatal Care Clinic. They observed the delivery of comprehensive primary healthcare services, including health promotion, disease prevention, chronic disease management, maternal healthcare, and continuity of care. The students also learned how multidisciplinary healthcare teams collaborate to address the diverse health needs of individuals, families, and communities.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students from both universities to exchange knowledge and perspectives on community nursing and primary healthcare. Through direct observation and interaction with healthcare professionals, the participants gained a deeper appreciation of Thailand’s community-based healthcare model while strengthening international friendships and academic collaboration. The activity reflects the shared commitment of Walailak University and SHOWA Medical University to preparing globally competent healthcare professionals through experiential learning and international exchange.
