The Global Multiprofessional and Cultural Camp.
From August 8-15, the School of Nursing at Walailak University, as the host, and the School of Allied Health Science, as the co-host, collaborated with the School of Nursing and Rehabilitation Science at Showa University to organize the Global Multiprofessional and Cultural Camp. This project aimed to provide nursing and allied health sciences students from Walailak University, along with nursing students from Japan, with hands-on professional experiences in nursing and physiotherapy, focusing on patient care, health promotion, treatment, and rehabilitation.
The main objectives of this project were:To exchange and enhance academic and professional knowledge in the medical field among students. To enable students to learn about different cultures and improve their communication skills with people from other countries. To create continuous activities and foster good relationships between the schools and international institutions.
Students gained extensive academic experiences, including home visits to patients in the community to practice nursing and physical rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and visits to Walailak University Hospital to observe various departments, such as Surgery, Internal Medicine, and the Emergency Department. They also learned about traditional Thai massage and the use of Thai herbs to create herbal inhalers.
In terms of cultural education, students were exposed to local culture, including community tours, such as boat trips to explore the culture of Ban Pak Phun, shadow puppet making, and learning about Thai culinary culture. Beyond academics and cultural experiences, students also developed teamwork skills, built strong relationships with their peers, and fostered a spirit of mutual assistance between Thai and Japanese students. This project has thus become an activity that strengthens the lasting relationship between the two institutions.
